Lahore High Court Orders Demolition of Polluting Factories to Combat Smog

Court Ruling on Factory Demolition

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has mandated the demolition of factories responsible for environmental pollution. Justice Shahid Karim issued the ruling in response to a petition filed by citizen Haroon Farooq and other concerned residents, focusing on measures to combat smog in the region.

Urgent Actions Against Pollution

In his remarks, Justice Karim emphasized the urgent need to dismantle these polluting factories. The court has also directed authorities to expedite actions against individuals engaged in burning crop residues, a practice contributing to the worsening smog crisis.

Transportation Arrangements for Students

Additionally, the court requested a comprehensive report from the local schools department regarding transportation arrangements for school children, including the provision of buses for safe pick-up and drop-off.

Monitoring Factory Emissions

To address pollution concerns, monitoring teams have been established to assess factory emissions in Sargodha. The court has also called for a detailed report on pollution levels related to the Tollinton Market.
